Well, I am back, sunburnt and stuffed, from a weekend in one of my most favorite towns in America.
Ames, Iowa.
1. Home of the Iowa State University Cyclones.
2. Where I spent six of my most informative years.
3. Home of possibly the best pizza and barbeque ever.
Anyway, this weekend, I was not there for myself. I was there for my son. This year, we signed him up for a traveling soccer team, hopefully to hone his skills more. It was a very good decision...he's learned so much.
Anyway, the final games were this weekend...in a tournament...in the town that I really love, which I mentioned already.
Game #1: Started out a bit rough, the other team scored right away, but before long, our team won out. 12-1.
Lunch: The Vegetarian Sub at Jimmy John's.
Game #2: A VERY good team. At one point, they were up 3-0. We battled back, though, scored a few goals, despite that, we still lost 5-3. Spencer played goalie in the second half and made a ginormous amount of saves.
Dinner at Valentino's dinner buffet and some time in the hotel pool.
Next day
Game #3: A much more finessed team, game ended in a tie. Spencer played goalie first half and let four through, not horrible, but not as good as last night.
Game #4: A tough battle, but the boys pulled out a win. Spencer had several more saves here.
And it was back last night to the comforts of my own home. And now's it back to the grind of an average work week...
..wait a minute. No, it's not. It's summer!
The soccer mom has now left the building.
It sounds like you are a solid supporter of the team. I can just hear you cheering the team on from the stands.
It was really a good time, even though I know I am too competitive for my kid's own good.
