This would be America's relationship with the Super Bowl.
The game has been on here, but I have continued my regularly scheduled Sunday night routine. Tom Brady and Eli Manning have not prevented me from doing laundry, bathing my children, preparing my lunch for work tomorrow, etc.
I even had the time to sit down with a cup of tea and do a little typey-typey on this story I'm working on. You see, I am obviously immune to its charms.
I also made a super-fabulously healthy vegetable lasagna for dinner, as opposed to the millions of Americans who are gorging themselves on pizza, chicken wings, and soda pop. I will be going to bed soon and getting a restful night of sleep, as opposed to the millions of Americans who will go to bed late, wake up early with indigestion, and try to slog through a Monday.
I realize that this entry will definitely smack of bitterness, and while I do not intend to come across that way, you all must certainly realize what a ridiculous thing this is. That we idolize a sport so much as to devote an entire day to the worshiping of it (of course, don't leave the week or so of hype). That we put this sport on a pedestal so much that businesses shell out big dollars to purchase a 10-second advertising spot during the commercials.
Maybe what I am REALLY bitter about is that anyone and everyone connected to the Super Bowl, from the MVP to the producers who placed the last commercial to the guys who are selling hot dogs right now at the stadium --- they are all making more money than me.
