Wish You Were Here

 Sorry

I didn't post last night, and frankly, I forgot all about doing it.

You see, I was so worked up into an extreme state of agitation such as I have not been in for years. So much so that I even had a very crappy night of sleep because of it.

I don't have the time to elaborate now, but I will later.

 The Day After Tomorrow...

You've all heard of this movie, right? Made in the last three or so years, with Dennis Quaid and Jake Gyllenhaal? You know, the one where the northern half of the planet undergoes an ice age?

OK, yeah, so that's pretty much what it's like here right now. Except the hunky Dennis Quaid will not be coming to rescue us. We totaled about a foot and a half on Sunday, and then another twelve inches dumped on us last night/this morning. School was cancelled Monday, let out early Tuesday, and cancelled today - who knows for tomorrow? I've forgotten what my students look like...but it's OK, because I will now have them until early June because of the snow days we must make up.

But, on a positive note, I have realized now how much I enjoy working in the adult world. I realize now that I really am NOT cut out for stay-at-home-mom material. We've all been cooped up indoors the last few days, and we're all suffering from cabin fever...and my three children all just got on my nerves today (I mean, I still love them dearly, but you know...). So, we watched a couple more movies and played a couple more hours of video games than would usually be allowed. So what!

Nevertheless, a decent day. I baked cookies (my fave - oatmeal chocolate chip) and did laundry. Spencer and I also had fun writing a little family newspaper using templates on Microsoft Word. We ended up having leftovers for supper, which we don't usually do, but we had a fridge full of them, so now there's more space in my refrigerator now that they're gone. Space for what, I don't know exactly. I also read a book, and various other indiscriminata.

Yeah, that's about it. Peace out, girl scout.

 Blogging Is Like Exercising

The later in the evening I do it, the worse the total result is.

Early on in my jogging-on-the-treadmill-every-night days, I thought I was being pretty wise by running later in the evening. I was emulating Chuck Norris by roundhouse kicking my earlier-eaten dinner right in its smug little face. However...

But as I continued along in this vein for awhile, my workouts began to be less productive. It became easier to slack off because I was tireder or fuller, or whatever lame excuse appeared at the time. So, I bumped my running to right after school, and sure enough, my workouts have made like Emeril and kicked themselves up a notch.

Which brings me to blogging. The later I wait, the suckier my entry is (or so I feel...it could possibly be the same brilliant drivel to you). Right now, I'm pretty sleepy and I'd like to go to bed, which is affecting my word judgment, I'm sure of it.

So I will. Go to bed, I mean. You can all talk bad about me and my lack of literary talent after I leave.

Just to warn you all, though, we're supposed to get five+ inches of snow here tonight. It's very likely that I won't have to go to work tomorrow...but I bet you will.

MWAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAAAAAAAAA!

 Monday, Monday

One of my goals recently has been to post more here on the Stream...you know, in an effort to boost readership. Well, you may have noticed that I've been able to report about every day this last week.

So, yay me.

I've gone back and reread some of the last week's posts, and noticed they are quite pithy and witty, and yet contain a modest tone that is quite refreshing in this day and age.

Hopefully, then, you will all forgive if this entry is anything but. I did not have to go to work today because of 12 inches of snow that dumped itself on us yesterday. So I sat around today, had lunch with Brent and two of the three children, read a book, ran on the treadmill, went to Spencer's golf lesson, ate at a Mexican place, went to a Community Theater Board meeting at 7:30, and basically, just arrived home about 15 minutes ago.

It's time for bed. There's my lackluster day for you adoring fans. Even superstars have boring days too.

 A Love Affair I Don't Understand

This would be America's relationship with the Super Bowl.

The game has been on here, but I have continued my regularly scheduled Sunday night routine. Tom Brady and Eli Manning have not prevented me from doing laundry, bathing my children, preparing my lunch for work tomorrow, etc.

I even had the time to sit down with a cup of tea and do a little typey-typey on this story I'm working on. You see, I am obviously immune to its charms.

I also made a super-fabulously healthy vegetable lasagna for dinner, as opposed to the millions of Americans who are gorging themselves on pizza, chicken wings, and soda pop. I will be going to bed soon and getting a restful night of sleep, as opposed to the millions of Americans who will go to bed late, wake up early with indigestion, and try to slog through a Monday.

I realize that this entry will definitely smack of bitterness, and while I do not intend to come across that way, you all must certainly realize what a ridiculous thing this is. That we idolize a sport so much as to devote an entire day to the worshiping of it (of course, don't leave the week or so of hype). That we put this sport on a pedestal so much that businesses shell out big dollars to purchase a 10-second advertising spot during the commercials.

Maybe what I am REALLY bitter about is that anyone and everyone connected to the Super Bowl, from the MVP to the producers who placed the last commercial to the guys who are selling hot dogs right now at the stadium --- they are all making more money than me.
