 That Moment of Selfish Discontent

I'm having one right now. And I don't know why. When I think about all the things going right in my life, I am simply disgusted at how I could possibly be this dissatisfied.

I have my health. My weight-loss has been going well these last couple of weeks. I'm getting into a semi-regular exercise routine. The husband and I have planned our big anniversary trip for next summer, and the babysitters scheduled. The weather around here is decent. Cyclone football is underway. Finances are pretty secure. Kids are healthy. Tomorrow's Friday. A nice three-day weekend coming up. No major bumps in the road at this time.

So. What the hell do I have to be bitching about?

I've only been in school for two weeks, and I'm near sick of my students. Especially the freshmen. They're loud and talkative...and dammit, I'm cranky. I feel just plain wore out...and I have nine months left to go. Secondly, I'm coming up on a real busy time at work, especially with my yearbook advising. We're getting ready to hand out last year's book, and there's just no simple way to get them out without some hassle somewhere. Third, I'm enrolled in this TV/Video Production Class at the college in town...and that is just another thing that lurks in the back of my mind. Fourth, the kids are simply rubbing me raw. They whine, they complain, they cry, they don't do what they're told, they don't go to bed. It takes everything in my power not to totally unleash on them.

And I know, deep down, this will all pass. The freshmen have their good days and bad days, the yearbooks will get passed out, the class will be fine, and underneath it all, I have good kids who are going through a rough patch. Like me...right now.

That which does not kill us makes us stronger. Touche.

A big WTF? on the weather

It is end of the August here, and Mother Nature has deciding to do a little pissing around on all of us.

It's been raining off and on since this morning but the kicker is the temperature. It's, like, jacket weather. Like get your pants on because it's frickin' freezing.

I mean, sincerely, what is that about? Iowa weather is nuts, and I should cease to be amazed, but it shocks me every single time. We just seem to go from zero to light speed when it comes to our weather. Sultry 90s one day...damp chilly 60s the next. I'm almost glad to work in a climate-controlled environment...I think I'd go batty with all that up and down.

However, I am not that anxious for summer to return. I am rather looking forward to fall weather. I am just never prepared for that ten-pound sack of concrete to the face when that first brisk day rolls in.

On an incidentally unrelated topic, I must work on losing the cliches in my writing. Geesh, it's enough to drive one to drink.

 Sweetness

It's approximately 7:45 pm, all kiddos are in bed and my house is relatively clean (deep cleaning nothwithstanding).

Also, I got some papers graded tonight, and am now caught up on that. I've just done my evening toilette, and the cat and guinea pigs have been fed.

And, tomorrow's Friday.

I'm just having one of the moments of absolute peace and contentment. 'Scuse me while I kiss the sky.

 Rasslin'

So, the ol' husband comes up to me last night, belts me with a pillow, and says, "Let's wrestle."

And I'm like WTF? because he usually doesn't do that kind of thing unless I initiate it. So, anyway, I'm like, "Bring it on, beeyotch." I manage to deflect his moves by going fetal on him, and pretty soon, I notice something weird about this whole situation.

The guy is trying to remove my shorts while we're rolling around on the floor.

Then it occurs to me that he is perhaps attempting to get a sex session going with me...and that is good. So, while weakly resisting his "professional" wrestling moves, I let him take my shorts off. The wrestling match continues.

As you all might guess, the husband does begin trying to remove my shirt. I am absolutely positive he is trying to get me in the sack, so at this point, I just roll over onto my back and drop the charade of resisting.

Anyway...the rest was good times and I have a nice smile on my face.

Dang, I love rasslin'.
